Underground Railway Tunnels

I enter the railway tunnels, as they are the only way into this otherwise fortified city. I hear the thunderous rumbling of distant subway trains, and the constant, eerie trickling of water from the rusty pipes overhead.

This tunnel has seen better days, and is a dismal state of complete disrepair. The walls are covered in thick layers of mildew and an unidentifiable reddish-brown sludge. It is apparent that no train has run through here in years.

As I continue down the passage, resisting the urge to explore the innumerable labyrinths that surely lead away from my destination, an acrid stench begins to seep into my nostrils; filling my nose, and leaving a vile taste in my mouth. I pull the collar of my coat up over the lower half of my face to block the foul air, and press on.
