Drafty School

from Apocalypse 1 by XeroPulse

/

about

I finally emerge from the wretched darkness of the filthy tunnels, into the open air of what appears to be a perfectly normal city, excepting the towering military barrier that stands over the city like an effigy of a cruel dictator over his domain. The silence is what stands out to me first- dead. After a short walk down the empty street, I find a school.

All the doors and windows are wide open, as if it were a scorching summer's day. The halls are as I would expect, posters depicting production that would never exist, rubbish strewn down the halls, and lockers, many of which stood open, covered in obscene juvenile "artworks," that would have gotten them suspended had they been caught drawing them.

The wind blows through the corridors, slamming doors, drawers, and knocking pencils to the floor. Each noise echoes through the building, as if unsure of where to go. I find it quite comforting, yet somewhat disturbing, (if that's even possible,) to be back in a school. It reminds me of days when things were simpler and I didn't have to run off to another country every time someone tells a ghost story.

Another gust of wind rushes through the building, sending a chill down the back of my neck. There seems to be nothing of interest here, and no evidence of what took these people away, so I decide to leave, and find another building to explore.
